Devon Church – Back From The Grind

Devon Church writes songs where whole systems come apart at the edges. “Back From The Grind” is out on Ruination Record Co., taken from his album The Shame of Winnipeg, ten songs about work, exhaustion and what late stage capitalism does to the people living inside it. Church stays at ground level throughout: back breaking shifts, hospital rooms, coffee ordered at a rural Tim Hortons. The argument early on is simple enough, that there’s no sense wearing yourself out to make someone else richer, and he makes it without ever sounding like a slogan.
